General Wesley K. Clark and Liener Temerlin Bring Government, Military and Marketing Perspective to the Board as New Directors

Wesley K. Clark

DALLAS, Feb. 13 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of Entrust, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU), a leading global provider of Internet security solutions and services, announced today the appointment of General Wesley K. Clark, U.S. Army (retired), and Liener Temerlin as its newest members. In addition, the Board named Entrust president and chief executive officer, F. William Conner, chairman of the board, effective immediately.

General Clark is currently managing director, Merchant Banking at the Stephens Group, Inc. where he works in high technology venture capital. He previously served as both the supreme allied commander of the NATO forces in Europe and the commander in chief of the United States European Command. General Clark earlier served as the commander in chief of the United States Southern Command. On August 9, 2000, he was awarded the Presidential Medal for Freedom, which is the nation's highest civilian honor. General Clark regularly serves as military analyst for Cable News Network (CNN).

Liener Temerlin is chairman emeritus of Temerlin McClain, a division of the Interpublic Group (IPG), the largest advertising, marketing and communications resource in the world. His marketing career spans almost five decades with a focus on building brands while building demand for market leaders such as American Airlines, JCPenney, Nationwide Insurance, Subaru of America, Bank of America, Bell Helicopter and Nortel Networks. His board roles in civic and global organizations include the East/West Institute, the American Film Institute, the Library of Congress, Madison Council, and Southern Methodist University (SMU), among many others. In October 2001, the SMU school of advertising was named "The Temerlin Advertising Institute for Education and Research" in his honor.

"We are privileged to have General Clark and Liener Temerlin join our Board of Directors," said Conner. "From their life-long legacy of service, the company will immediately benefit from their collective leadership, perspective and vision."

Conner, who succeeds Jim Thomson as chairman of the board, is credited with powering a successful company reset, establishing a clear business model, rebuilding the brand and leading the company toward profitability. Conner, 42, has been president and chief executive officer of Entrust since April 2001.

"When Bill Conner joined Entrust, the company needed new direction and focus on results," said Jim Thomson, outgoing chairman of the board. "With Bill's changes to strategy and organization, I think the company is moving forward well and that I can step aside. I share the board's support for Bill's leadership and look forward to great things in the future for Bill and Entrust."

"We are also extremely grateful for the significant contributions Jim Thomson has made to Entrust." Conner said. "His leadership on the Entrust board of directors came during one of the most challenging periods in our company history. On behalf of the board, I appreciate his support and guidance during this period."

The Washington Post

For Retired Gen. Wesley Clark, Next Battlefield May Be Congress

By Thomas E. Ricks
Tuesday, February 19, 2002; Page A05

Wesley K. Clark

The general who led NATO during the 1999 Kosovo campaign might wind up sitting in Congress.

Retired Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark, now an investment banker and a television commentator on the Afghan war, is contemplating a run for the House or Senate in Arkansas. "I've been asked by both parties," he said in a recent interview. "It's an honor to be asked." He said he has not made a decision, but does want "to get back into public service."

One person not likely to sign up to aid Clark any time soon is former defense secretary William S. Cohen. While defense secretary, the Maine Republican clashed mightily with Clark, who he believed went behind his back with the White House and the media. Clark, for his part, believed Cohen didn't understand the war.

Clark's interest in politics might mark a turning point for retired top brass, who generally haven't run for high office in recent decades. Pentagon insiders say they wouldn't be surprised if Air Force Gen. Joseph Ralston, who was Clark's successor as the top U.S. military officer in Europe, runs for the Senate from Alaska when he retires.

Staff researcher Brian Faler contributed to this report.

Clark's 2nd book 'Winning Modern Wars'

Winning Modern Wars

ORDER NOW (2003)

This book will be released in October, 2003.

General Wesley K. Clark's Waging Modern War: Bosnia, Kosovo, and the Future of Combat, a Washington Post bestseller, examined his experience directing the NATO-led war in Kosovo. As Clark saw it, the Kosovo war — limited in scope, measured in effect, extraordinarily complex in execution, waged with an uneven coalition, with instantaneous media coverage, and with a duration measured in days and not years, would serve as a model for contemporary war. He has been proven right.

In Winning Modern Wars, General Wesley Clark writes about how the issues and principles discussed in his earlier book were evident in Afghanistan, Iraq, and wherever the war on terrorism has taken us or may take us next. In Winning Modern Wars, Clark provides a frank and revealing analysis of the gains, risks, and shortfalls of America's current approach and offering informed alternatives to that approach.

What Clark, currently a much-watched and much-admired military analyst on CNN and one of the most decorated and influential officers of his generation, has to say on our national plans and tactics — and the lessons of empire — is invaluable. In this important new book, he has reminded us that as we celebrate our successes, we must also tend to their consequences.

Dear loyal supporter,

I can't thank you enough for all the support you've shown my family and me over the past 5 months, and especially in the last week since my decision to leave the presidential race.  Your emails, letters, and phone calls have meant a lot to Gert and me.
Right now, we're looking forward to a little time off.  Today, Gert and I are flying to Los Angeles to spend the next week with Wes, Astrid, and my new grandson.  During the next few weeks, I'll be reflecting a lot on all that we've done together and putting together some ideas about where we will go from here.
For many of us, this was our first time to really get involved in politics.  I think we all learned a lot, and I hope you feel as I do: even more inspired to do whatever it takes to build a better America.
My pledge to you is to remain involved in the political process.  And I ask you to do the same, because there is just too much at stake this election.
We cannot allow George W. Bush and the Republicans to play politics with national security.
We must reclaim the values of faith, family, patriotism, and inclusive leadership for America.
We must do everything in our power to send George W. Bush back to Texas and return the White House to its rightful owner -- the American people.
In short, I ask you to stick with me and support the Democratic nominee.  There is a long road ahead and a lot of work to do. I'll be back in touch soon with ideas about how we can continue to work together and spread our message across America.  If you have any thoughts you'd like to share, please email me at wesclark@clark04.com.
I look forward to continuing to work with you to build a better America.
Best regards,

Wes Clark

P.S.  To minimize any confusion during this transition period, all communications about my future plans, fundraising, and any other official information will come directly from me. As always, you also will be able to find this information on our official website, www.clark04.com.

Dear supporter,
It’s an exciting time to be a Democrat.

While ending my campaign was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made, seeing the unified spirit and energy of Democrats around the country confirms that it was the right decision at the right time.  Now that two weeks have passed, I hope you too can appreciate just how important our work has been.
But please realize how much work is ahead for all of us.
So that I may properly transfer the incredible support, energy and resources of my campaign to the eventual Democratic nominee, I need you, one of my most loyal and generous supporters, to help today. The costs of shutting down a national organization are costly.  I can assure you that we have a strong team working on this matter quickly and cost effectively.
Your personal contribution of $50 or $100 right now will help us close the books on my campaign and will allow us to focus our complete attention and resources on the great challenge ahead.
I am eager to do everything I can to help defeat George W. Bush, and I’m asking you to please stand with me now and in the weeks and months ahead.  The Republican attacks are just starting, but together we can silence them with the facts and our vision for a better America for our families.
Over the coming days we will be treated to an intense debate between the remaining candidates.  It is a valuable debate about the issues we face, and the American people are listening.  Voter turnout is setting new records across the country.  Together, we stand poised to win in November – and we will.
So, as things wrap up in Little Rock, I’m back on the campaign trail this week in support of Senator Kerry.  Please help my campaign one last time, and then join me in actively supporting Democratic candidates everywhere with all the passion and enthusiasm you showed during my campaign.
Ours is truly one of the great movements of American political history.  We will not be forgotten, and with your help today, our drive to change America will continue.
With great appreciation,

Wes Clark

Clark family

Dear loyal supporter,
With the results of Tuesday’s primaries in Texas, Mississippi, Florida, and Louisiana, and after a spirited series of primaries and caucuses in more than 34 states, John Kerry has clinched the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.
Never before in history has our party stood so united, so determined, so early.  Never before has our party been so ready, so soon, so confident in who we are, what we believe, and how we are going to make this great country even greater.  And now, with John Kerry, we are ready to lead this nation forward.
I’m proud to be standing with John Kerry -- a real American patriot, a true statesman, a great leader, and the next President of the United States.  I’m doing my part to make sure that he wins this fall, including making calls, appearing on news shows, and reaching out to voters.  Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve campaigned in Georgia and Kansas.  Next week I’ll be campaigning for John Kerry in the key swing-state of Ohio, and I’m looking forward to helping much more in the weeks and months to follow.
And I’m proud that so many of you are standing with us to fight for America’s future.  The response from friends like you, and millions of other Democrats, has been overwhelming.  Throughout my campaign, and especially over the past few weeks, I’ve witnessed first-hand in people everywhere the passion and enthusiasm we need to change America.
You have already played a critical role in this great national debate:  you got me into this race, you carried our message throughout your community, and you supported my campaign from beginning to end.  This process of debating the issues, motivating grassroots support, bringing new people into the party, and choosing our nominee has been great for the Democratic Party.  And now we will close ranks behind John Kerry, committed to do all that we can to win back the White House this November.
But we still need your help -- today, this week, this month, and through November -- to elect John Kerry this fall.  Here are just a few things I’d ask you to do:
° Join your local Kerry 2004 Meetup.   Bring your knowledge and experience in grassroots organizing to the next Kerry 2004 Meetup on Thursday, March 25th.  Your work through local Meetups played a critical role in our campaign, and they will be important to John Kerry’s victory this fall.  We will win this election one community at a time, one vote at a time, and Meetups can really help.
° Visit www.JohnKerry.com.  Learn more about John Kerry, his stands on the issues, and how you can get more involved in his campaign.
° Get involved with your local Democratic party.   Help organize local outreach events and voter registration drives.
° Reach out to friends and family.  Talk to everyone you know about the importance of this fall’s election, and invite them to get involved with you.
° Stay tuned for coming news about my future plans.   I’m finalizing the details on these activities, and I’ll be telling you more about them in the next few weeks.  We’ll need your help to take action at a local level and across the country, supporting John Kerry and Democrats everywhere in bringing a higher standard of leadership to America.
As always, thanks so much for your continued support.  I look forward to working with all of you to elect John Kerry this November and make America an even better, safer, stronger, and more prosperous nation.
Best regards,

Wes Clark
